Bio.

Erin Benton is a native Austinite. She has always been devoted to discovering the mind-body connection, graduating from Texas State with degrees in both Dance and Psychology in 2008. At this time, she practiced yoga as a method of cross training. Looking back, she appreciates that what really kept her coming back was the relief yoga provided from dance studio mirrors and alignment-focus some dance techniques required. Upon graduating, Erin lost her father to cancer, and she began to suffer from depression and anxiety. She relied on yoga and meditation to help her through these dark times. In fact, she still jokes that yoga is her longest and healthiest relationship to date and describes yoga as a reciprocal compass pointing toward and from the Self.
Erin always knew she would be a teacher. The thought of teaching yoga as a career path didn’t occur to her until later, when she was encouraged by several mentors and family members. In 2008 she became Yoga Alliance certified and by 2013 she was teaching full time. Since then, Erin has coached and led multiple yoga teacher trainings, and continues her certification yearly, adding a wide range of skills to her teaching tool belt. Asana sequencing methodology, developing yoga training content, and mentoring young teachers are her current favorite pursuits.
On the mat, Erin has a deep commitment to finding effective explanations for movement and alignment which allow the practice of yoga to become an experience of mindful expression rather than rote exercise. She is inspired to create yoga classes that support and enhance one's daily lifestyle. Students describe Erin's classes as very physically demanding, yet like performing a dance. Off the mat Erin is traveling, writing and cooking. She is currently working on a collection of creative poems, plotting her next travel destination and making a family recipe book.
